Oh, April, I love you.

Today is the day that we got engaged!! It also, coincidentally, is our 9 month anniversary. I'll run through the story quickly - because I love it! The night Ammon told me he loved me was the night we told each other that we wanted to get married. So, the element of surprise was pretty much gone. We booked the temple that next day, picked out a ring the day after that, and I bought my dress on the third day. I knew when Ammon had my ring because I saw the papers - so, I knew it was coming soon!!! But, I think he figured that out so he made me wait a very anxious 12 days before he proposed. The night it happened we had been playing volleyball with his family for like 3 hours and both of us were all gross and sweaty. We came back to my apartment and I took a shower - when I got out it was like 11:30 pm and I assumed he would be going home soon. He looked at me in my signature Cardinals t-shirt and sweatpants (yeah I'll remember that forever - what an awesome outfit to wear when you get engaged!), and told me he loved me. Then he asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. I had soaking wet hair, no make-up, and that lovely little outfit I just described. But, we went anyways. We walked to the park and swung on the swings - then walked to the temple. The gates were locked, so we walked around once to the visitors center in front of the statue. There was the cutest old man in there cleaning and he waved to us. Ammon started laughing and I turned to look at him and he pulled me into a hug and said "You know I love you right?" I said yes and he said "And that I'd do anything for you and want to make you happy?" and I said yes. He got down on one knee and pulled out my ring and asked me to marry him. Luckily the old man was gone, but after I said yes we hugged for like 20 minutes in the middle of the night outside the visitors center.

To me.... it was perfection. I couldn't ask for a better proposal - and it was soooo Ammon :)

I looked out the window and what did I see?

This is my favorite time of year!! I love the feeling of the days getting longer and hotter! The smell of grass and flowers and water (it sounds weird, but anywhere with a fountain I could just sit all day and smell the water). I love it!! I also love April, especially, because some of the greatest events happen(ed) in April... Where to start?!

I know we, Ammon and I, take the gospel for granted far too much. Listening to Conference really puts us in check with how we're living our lives and where we can improve - which is basically in every area :). I've never had the feeling that a conference talk was speaking to me as an individual - but the Sunday morning session in particular was written for me. It's almost refreshing to sit and watch the leaders of our amazing Church bear their testimonies.

I never take full advantage of this time of year! Before it gets swelteringly hot and all I want to do it lounge in the pool, I really wish I would utilize this beautiful month better! My family went to conference and Ammon and I had the pleasure of watching Haden (and I really mean pleasure - this kid is a riot!). He's so full of energy and spunk, all he wanted to do was play outside. With our teeny backyard, we had to walk down to town's square and play behind the library and splashpad. I can't believe I've never gone there before today! We had a BLAST! And they do such an amazing job of making our city beautiful! Needless to say, I'll be going there much more often.

Some of my all time favorite people were born in April! Two of my dearest friends, Kacee Payne and Erin Poffenberger (April 4th & 3rd), Kacee's adorable baby Maddux (18th), and Ammon's brother Joe (2nd) and his Dad (22nd). And my two cute little brothers were born in April. Coincidentally, this time last year was very eventful for Ammon and me. He told me he loved me for the first time on Chase's birthday (April 5th), and proposed to me on Zack's birthday (April 17/18th - it was around midnight) - kinda close together - we didn't mess around! I'll never forget those two days now :D

Moral of my long story is - I always feel like this is the time of year to be thankful for all that we have (who needs that one holiday in November?!). Watching our beautiful world morph from a dead, cold winter into a gorgeous, flower-filled spring helps me to remember why we're here and how blessed we are to live in such an amazing world. the end :D
